Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, recently addressed concerns about political violence and healthcare policy in a series of social media posts.

On September 16, 2025, Cleaver stated, "All Americans should agree that political violence is completely unacceptable in the United States, and our political leaders have a responsibility to turn down the temperature. We must listen to our better angels and not our worst demons."

In another post from the same day, he wrote: "The vast majority of Americans are sick of the nonstop division and hate that is driving our communities apart. But instead of working to unite the country by condemning political violence in all forms, the administration is lying and stoking the flames of anger. It’s extremely https://t.co/fz6Gbn0Mve"

Later on September 16, Cleaver commented on cancer research policy: "Cancer is a vicious disease that impacts Americans in every community and from every background. The Administration’s effort to dismantle the nation’s infrastructure to research, treat, and ultimately cure cancer is extraordinarily shortsighted and deeply regrettable. https://t.co/dABtlIRU3l"

Cleaver has represented Missouri's 5th District since succeeding Karen McCarthy in 2005. Born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently residing in Kansas City at age 78, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A&M University.
