Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 5th district since 2005, posted a series of statements on September 9, 2025, addressing recent legislative actions and policy priorities.

In his first post at 14:02 UTC, Cleaver criticized congressional Republicans for prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy over healthcare support for working families. He wrote, "Instead of extending tax credits that help lower healthcare costs for working class families, Republicans in congress extended tax breaks that overwhelmingly benefit millionaires and billionaires. Now, families are facing massive price hikes on their health coverage next year."

Later that day at 16:40 UTC, Cleaver highlighted the work of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and reaffirmed his commitment as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing. He stated, "For 60 years, HUD has worked to ensure every American has safe, stable, and affordable housing. As the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing, I’m fighting to ensure HUD is fully funded and can continue its mission of expanding the American Dream for ALL our neighbors."

Cleaver was born in Waxahachie, Texas in 1944 and currently resides in Kansas City. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.
