He stated, “We were fortunate that during our tenures in office no effort was made to unlawfully undermine the nation’s financial commitments. Regrettably, recent reporting gives substantial cause for concern that such efforts are underway today.”

Later that day at 22:49 UTC, Rep. Cleaver voiced support for consumer protection alongside fellow Democrats. He tweeted, “I’m proud to stand with @RepMaxineWaters, @HouseDemocrats, and so many others to tell Elon Musk: #HandsOffTheCFPB!
