(Kansas City, MO) – On June 28, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (MO-05) hosted a check presentation and press conference to highlight the $400,000 in Community Project Funding he was able to secure for SAVE, Inc and PRIDE Haven. PRIDE Haven helps ensure homeless LGBTQI+ transition-aged youth, aged 18-24, can access safe, welcoming, and accepting drop-in and overnight shelter. Individuals served find a welcoming, supportive environment as well as case management, connection to community resources, shower and laundry facilities, computer access, a safe place to sleep, and healthy meals. SAVE Inc. serves an average of 120 individuals each year, and in 2022 PRIDE Haven was at capacity with a waiting list. The funding secured by Rep. Cleaver will go to support SAVE Inc.’s operations at PRIDE Haven, ensuring more individuals have access to the vital services they provide to the Kansas City community.

PRIDE Haven is one of fifteen projects Congressman Cleaver championed in Congress, securing nearly $40 million in federal funding in Fiscal Year 2023 that will directly benefit residents of the Fifth Congressional District.

“Our community is characterized by its compassion and acceptance of all individuals,” said Congressman Cleaver. “LGBTQI+ youth in the Fifth District ought to know that they are valued members of our community, and even when they fall on hard times, we will be there to support them in their time of need. As hostility toward the LGBTQI+ community rises in Missouri, PRIDE Haven is place that not only provides overnight shelter for youth in distress, but also arranges other support services that help individuals get back on their feet and become contributing members of the community. It brings me great joy to have secured this federal funding so that SAVE, Inc. can continue to carry out its important mission and touch the lives of young Kansas Citians relying on the organization’s vital services.”
